Shabana born 18 September 1950 in New Delhi, India is one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema. Shabana Azmi was born into a Muslim family. Her parents Kaifi Azmi and Shaukat Azmi were both members of the Communist Party of India. She completed a master's degree in psychology from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and came up with a course in acting in films and TV Institute of India Pune.



Azmi graduated from FTII in 1973 and continued to sign on Khwaja Ahmad Abbas Faasla and began to work at Kanti Lal Rathod's Parinay so well. Her first release was, however, Shyam Benegal's Ankur director debut. She continued to receive National Film Award each other in the three years 1983-1985 for his roles in movies, Arthas, Khandhar and Paar.

Shabana Azmi is a committed social activist, active in the fight against AIDS, child survival and injustice in real life. Shabana Azmi has voiced his views on a variety of subjects. She had participated in several plays and demonstrations end communalism. In 1989, along with Swami Agnivesh and Asghar Ali Engineer, she undertook a four-day march for communal harmony from New Delhi to the Meerut district.
